When choosing a home has gone to the dogs
In this day and age, many prospective home buyers are taking into consideration the various options available to them in regards to their pet's comfort. Yes, that's right, I said it. Basically home buyers are choosing homes based on how they will accommodate their beloved pets. Most people reading this article are thinking, "really?". But we've all done it. We want to be sure that the new start we plan to make in our next home will also accommodate our pets. And let's be honest, the easier the transition for our pets, the easier the transition for the pet owner as well.
The most common question I am asked when showing a home as, "Is the backyard fenced in?". This is by far the most popular pet friendly choice when choosing a home. And luckily, most home owners in residential neighborhoods have already thought of this as well. However, when searching for a home in more urban areas, be sure to ask your agent to show you where the dog friendly areas are. Many new developments, are not only accommodating pets, but also encouraging prospective Buyers to bring their pets with them. Some have designated play areas, wash stations and even doggy day cares.
I have also noticed a trend in recent building plans that include built in food cabinets and feeding stations. As well as beautifully constructed stair cases that house a small dog kennel underneath them. An idea that I personally love. And as a Real Estate Agent always looking for ideas that set your house apart from the rest, this is a great one. If you are building or looking to update your home in any way, you absolutely cannot go wrong with keeping the pets in mind. Because just like home ownership will never go away, neither will the love of our pets.
